If you're totally obsessed with glazing and glaze testing (GUILTY), but don't really know much about the materials you're using or how they affect your glazes, then this workshop is for YOU.
We are very excited to welcome Brisbane-based ceramic artist, Kim Ulrick, into our studio to lead this full-day workshop. We first met Kim through her Facebook group, Learn to Make Glazes for Australian Potters, which is an incredible resource for those on their glazing journey. If you're already familiar with Kim, then you'll know she is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to ceramic materials and glaze testing, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her on board.
During this full-day workshop, you will learn about:
◦ Three main components of a glaze
◦ Different ceramic materials and how they affect a glaze
◦ How to analyse a glaze recipe, including how to predict the firing temperature, how to tell if a glaze will be glossy or matte, how to tell if a glaze will be durable etc.
◦ Learn how to adjust a glaze recipe to suit your needs and reduce defects
This is a full day workshop and will be broken up into a morning and afternoon session. The morning session will be primarily theory and discussion based. We will then take a short break (coffee, tea and pastries provided). Lunch is available for purchase from our cafe, or you are welcome to bring your own. After the break, we will dive into the practical portion of the workshop where you will work in pairs to conduct several different experiments using different base glazes.
After the workshop, your test tiles will be fired to cone six in our electric kiln, you will be able to come and collect them roughly 1-2 weeks after the workshop.
Please note, this workshop is not designed for beginners. If you are new to mixing and testing glazes, please consider first booking in for our Making Glazes 101 workshop.
