Description
Tired of paying an arm and a leg for commercial glazes? Gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to start mixing your own with our full-day Glazing 201 workshop.
Taught by local ceramic artist, Lyndall Bensley, this full-day workshop will run from 9am to 2pm, and will be broken down into a morning and an afternoon session.
During the morning session, we will walk you through:
◦ the basics of glaze chemistry
◦ the basics of glaze application
◦ how to read a glaze recipe
◦ how to mix a glaze recipe, including what you need to get started
◦ how to make test tiles
◦ safety practices
After the morning session, we will provide a delicious vegetarian lunch, prepared using fresh, seasonal, greens that are grown right next door by local farmers, Jumping Red Ant (trust us when we say their roast carrot dish is out of this world).
After lunch, we'll dive into the practical portion of the workshop, including mixing and testing glaze recipes. Working in groups of three, we will walk you through how to:
◦ read and mix a basic glaze recipe
◦ perform a basic glaze test on two different clay bodies
◦ how to layer glazes
What do I need to bring?
◦ Notebook & pen
◦ Please wear comfortable clothes & close toe shoes, have short nails and remove all valuable jewelry
After the workshop, your test tiles will be fired to cone six in our electric kiln. You will be able to come and collect them roughly ten days after the workshop.
This class is specially designed for those who have either completed our Glazing 101 class or have prior experience. If you are new to glazing, please check out our Glazing 101 workshop.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Please note, this workshop is held offsite in Duranbah, near Tropical Fruit World (address to be provided), at the studio of Jennifer Redmond of Yucca Stone Ceramics.
