OUR MISSION
Here at Stone Studio, it is our mission to share the incredible medium of clay with others. We aim to share the joy of ceramics in a welcoming, encouraging and supportive environment that encourages creativity and fosters community.
Hi, I’m Jennifer.
I’ll never forget the first time I touched clay.
I had always wanted to try pottery. I’m pretty sure the seed was first planted when I eight years old. My mum signed my best friend and I up for a week-long pottery summer camp. I can actually still picture the class room, and I can remember how excited I was when the teacher handed me my very own pottery tool set. Now that I think of it, I’m pretty sure my dad still has the mug that I made him.
But it wasn’t until later in my life that I finally mustered up the courage to have another go.
I had just graduated from university and moved to California with my partner. To be completely honest, I was going through a pretty rough time. I was struggling with anxiety, isolation and low self-esteem.
It felt like an eternity that I had been searching for something that gave me purpose, confidence and a sense of community. Maybe you can relate? Maybe you’re still searching?
Then one day, I stumbled upon an ad on Groupon for an introductory course in ceramics at a local pottery studio and before I knew it, I had purchased the course. But, it took me nearly six months before I finally booked into my first lesson. I was so worried that I wouldn’t be any good at it, or that I wouldn’t fit in. Little did I know that stepping into that studio would completely change my life.
I found myself at the studio two, three, four times a week. After work, on the weekends. You could pretty much find me there all the time. And with time, I started to get the hang of it, and I also started to find my feet again. I was surrounded by a welcoming, friendly, creative, encouraging and supportive community.
Eventually, I started helping out at the studio, and within a year of stepping in to that studio for the first time I was teaching.
The joy that I felt when I taught that first class was unlike any feeling I had ever experienced before.
This medium grounds you, gives you purpose, confidence and a sense of community, and there really isn’t anything quite like it.
That’s why I get up every morning. That’s why I do this. To share the same experience that I had with others.
So I invite you to stop by the studio, grab a coffee, say hello and let’s chat. Who knows, maybe it’s exactly what you’ve been searching for too.
