Where are you located?
We have two studios. The larger of the two is in Currumbin Waters, on the southern end of the Gold Coast of Australia. We also have a smaller, more intimate studio in the beachside town of Kingscliff, just south of the Queensland border.
Currumbin Waters: 6/14 Nuban Street
Kingscliff: 1/110 Marine Parade
When are you open?
Both studios are open seven days a week. Our cafe hours are listed below:
Currumbin Waters: 6:00am - 1:00pm Daily
Kingscliff: 6:30am - 1:00pm Daily
Scheduled classes run throughout the week at various times. Please refer to our online calendar for specific dates and times.
Are your studios wheel chair accessible?
Yes and no. Our Currumbin Waters studio is fully wheelchair accessible, including the use of our pottery wheels. Unfortunately, our Kingscliff studio is not.
How much does it cost?
It depends on what you would like to do! Our beginner pottery classes start at $95pp, which includes not only the class but also the firing and glazing of your work.
My friends and I are keen, but it looks like you're fully booked?
If you have a group of four or more, please send us a message.
Let us know what day and time would work best for your group and we can send you through a few different options to book a private workshop.
I'm front out of town, can you ship my work when it's ready?
Yes, absolutely. After your work has been fired, we will weigh and package your pieces. We'll then send you and invoice for the shipping cost. As soon as it's been paid, we'll get your work shipped out right away.
Do I need to bring anything?
No, you don't need to bring anything with you. Unless it's a Clay & Sip class, in which case you're more than welcome to BYO some vino. We have glassware available, as well as still and sparkling water on tap.
What should I wear?
If you're hand-building, you don't generally get too messy. That being said, we are working with clay, so we do suggest wearing and clothes (and shoes) that you won't mind getting a little clay-covered.
If you're wheel-throwing, you'll definitely get a little messy! We do have aprons available, but chances are you'll still get some clay somewhere. Not to worry though, it'll wash it. We do also ask that all long hair please be tied back if you're on the wheels.
Are the classes BYO?
All of our Clay & Sip classes are BYO. We do have glassware available, as well as still and sparkling water on tap.
When will my pieces be ready to collect?
It will take us approximately 4-6 weeks to fire and glaze your work. You'll receive an email from us as soon as your pieces are ready to collect. If it's been over six weeks and you have yet to receive an email, please check your spam folder. More often than not, that's where you'll find it. If you're from out of town, shipping can be arranged for an added cost.
I havn't been able to come by and collect my work. How long will you store it for?
Due to limited storage space, we will store your work for one month. Any uncollected work will be discarded or donated.
I've signed up for a course, but I have to miss a week. Can I do a make up?
It's important to choose a time slot that suits your schedule across the duration of the course as unfortunately we are unable to guarantee make-up sessions. That being said, we will do absolute everything we can to try and offer you a make-up if we're able to do so, but due to the nature of ceramics, unfortunately it's not always 100% possible. Please contact us if you know you will be away for a session, and we can see what we can do!
Something has come up. Can I reschedule?
Yes, you can reschedule up to 48 hours before your class. If you need to reschedule, please contact us at hello@stonestudio.com.au as soon as possible and we can help book you in for a new date.
I want to book for a course, but it's sold out?
If we have a high demand for a class we can sometimes open up an additional course!
Please let us know and we'll add your name to the waitlist. If we have enough interest, then we can sometimes add an additional course or even squeeze in an extra person.
I've completed a beginner course, how do I know if I'm ready for membership?
The 6 week beginners courses give you all the fundamental skills to begin practising on your own as a member.
If you completed your course, including glaze week then you are ready for membership.
However, it's all comes down to the individual person and how you're feeling! If you feel like you'd like some extra tuition, we do run Level 2 courses as well as our popular Term Based tutoring courses for additional guided learning.
I'm in the middle of my course but I'm unable to make it to the final glazing session, what's going to happen to my work?
If you're unable to make it to the final glazing session, we can glaze your work for you for an additional fee.
Alternatively, you're welcome to pick up your pieces, purchase a commercial glaze, glaze your work at home and submit your work through our public firing service.
What's your cancellation policy?
All tickets are non-refundable. You can reschedule up to 48 hours before your class, otherwise, you will incur a 30% per person cancellation fee . The best way to let us know if you can't make your class on short notice is to text us at +61 412 157 657.
How does it work?
Our membership program is a subscription, similar to a gym membership. You simply choose which studio you would like to attend, how many times per week you would like to come, and which billing frequency you would prefer, monthly or quarterly.
Once you have completed your studio orientation and your membership has been activated, you can then attend the studio freely during membership hours.
What's included?
With our membership program, you'll have full access to the studio during membership hours including our state-of-the-art pottery wheels, large hand-building tables, slab roller, extruder, in-house studio glazes, underglazes and tools. Your membership also includes storage of your works plus up to one bag of clay, as well as the regular firing of your work and 10% of classes.
The only items that are not included in your membership are your clay and your firing, as these are highly variable from maker to maker.
Am I able to drop in any time?
At both studios we have set membership drop-in hours. At our Currumbin Waters studio, members are able to access the studio seven days/week. At our Kingscliff studio, we are open to members three days a week.
Can I pause my membership?
Yes, you can pause your membership for up to four weeks total per calendar year.
What if I need to cancel?
We understand how crazy life can be. If you need to cancel, just shoot us an email and we'll help get it sorted.
What temperature do you fire to?
We are a midfire studio. We fire our kilns to approximately 1250C and are always aiming to hit a cone 6/7. Please note, we do not accept earthenware clay bodies.
How long is the turn around?
We always strive to have your work fired and back in your hands within 7-14 days of dropping it off. Please note, times may vary depending on volume of work going through the firing service, as well as the size of your work. Plates, platters and very tall vessels may take longer than usual.
Do you offer full kiln hire?
Unfortunately not at this time.
What do I need to know before dropping off my work.
Firing can be risky business. Please take a moment to read through our Terms & Conditions prior to dropping off your work.

Can I pay extra to have my work rushed through?
Unfortunately not. We work on a first-come, first-serve basis.

At our Currumbin Waters studio, we easily accomodate groups of up to 20 for a hand building class and up to 10 for a wheel throwing class.
