Made By Me - Member Edition

by Meg Marlow

In celebration of our 'Made by Me' campaign we're shining a very special spotlight on some of the members of our Stone Studio family. Today, the star of the show is Claire. While she may be the youngest member of our family, she is not to be overlooked, with a heart of gold and skills that rival potters twice her age. Join us as we delve into Claire's journey with Stone, Pottery and what learning the art of Wheel Throwing means to her.

Made By Me, Member Edition. Stone Studio, Meet Claire.

Q: How were you first introduced to pottery?
A: I  was first introduced to Wheel Throwing by my mum who gifted my sister and I the Beginner Wheel Throwing Course to us as a Christmas gift. I started when I was 14 and now I am now nearly 16.
Q: How long have you been a member at Stone Studio?
A:  I completed the Beginners Wheel Throwing 6 week Course at Stone Studio in Kingscliff, with my mum and older sister in January 2022. I was lucky enough to receive a Studio Membership for my birthday and have been a member at the Miami studio since May 2022.

Q: What does pottery mean to you?
A: Pottery has fast become my favourite pastime, I would be at the studio every day if I could! I love art and design and find pottery to be a very calming and creative outlet. I am also not a master at it so I love that I can challenge myself and make mistakes along the process to improve my skills.
Q: How has pottery impacted your life and your self confidence?
A: I have often had times where I‘ve struggled with anxiety, so doing pottery at Stone Studio has become my way of relaxing and having fun by making a huge mess. It’s pretty much my happy place. Everyone is super kind to me. I don’t feel judged and I always feel like I can watch and learn from other members, and of course laugh when our pieces spin off the wheel. I feel so much more confident in myself since I started pottery.

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a member at Stone Studio?
A: My favourite thing about Stone Studio is how I feel when I’m at the wheel. Happy and calm. I love that the environment it is very chill and there’s heaps of room for everyone to chat and build friendships as well as skills with other members and the team.
Q: Where can we go to see some of your work?
A: At the moment I just have my instagram @claireslilpots but hopefully by the end of next month my website/online store will be up and running.
